Summary

The NX Color Star system is a solvent-based pyrotechnic formula set developed by Ned Gorski, designed to produce high-performance, vibrant stars with rapid drying times. The system utilizes Parlon (chlorinated rubber) as both the binder and chlorine donor, activated by acetone, which allows the stars to cure quickly and become extremely hard and durable. You can also use the traditional water-bound Dextrin system. The formulas typically employ magnalium (often -200 mesh) as the metallic fuel to enhance flame temperature and color saturation. A key technical advantage of the NX system is its mixability; the base compositions are chemically compatible, allowing users to blend them in specific ratios to achieve a wide spectrum of intermediate hues without altering burn characteristics.
