These mixes need good confinement – a spiked heavy report case – to give a good bang, but given that confinement, make a sharp report. They burn relatively placidly in the open as compared to flash powders. Friction is the main hazard and should be strictly avoided. I do not like diapering as a sole means of mixing. It will do no harm to be sure that all ingredients are free flowing and finely powdered, then gently to blend by hand and diaper first, then let the mixture fall freely through a 20-mesh screen 2 or 3 times – shaking gently if needed, but WITHOUT RUBBING. Make only enough to load the reports you need and keep it wrapped up in the paper you mixed it on until then. Transfer to the report cases using a slip of tagboard folded to make a small scoop.
